Spinach is a vegetable plant that has the scientific name Amaranthus spp. The word "amaranth" in Greek means "everlasting". Spinach comes from a tropical district in America. Spinach were originally known as ornamental plants. In further development, spinach is promoted as a source of protein, especially in developing countries. Spinach entered Indonesia in the nineteenth century when trade traffic from abroad entered Indonesian territory. Spinach planting centers in Indonesia are in West Java, Central Java, and East Java.
